Jharsuguda, Odisha, Oct 8,2026: The Odisha bandh called by the Congress-led INDIA bloc received a strong response in Jharsuguda, with all shops and government offices, including the Collectorate, remaining closed and normal life affected during the bandh.

Shops and business establishments across Jharsuguda district were seen downing their shutters, while public movement remained considerably lower than on a normal day. Vehicular movement was also disrupted as bandh supporters blocked roads and restricted the movement of vehicles. Public transport and commercial vehicle movement were severely affected. However, considering the inconvenience caused to the public, the protesters allowed private vehicles.

The bandh has been called over several issues, including opposition to the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026, concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleged errors in school textbooks and demands relating to relief for flood-affected people.

Emergency and essential services were kept outside the bandh.
