Questions have been raised over healthcare services at Satellite Hospital, Jharsuguda, Odisha, following allegations of delayed medical attention to a Seriously ill Seven-Year-Old Girl and alleged misbehaviour by Dr. Anees Aktar. According to the girl’s family, she was brought to the hospital at around 06:00 A.M., but the doctor allegedly asked them to wait until 08:00 A.M., before attending to her.

The incident assumes significance as the hospital was inaugurated with the stated objective of providing 24×7 Healthcare Services. The allegations subsequently triggered a Dharna in front of the Satellite Hospital, demanding action against the doctor.

The protest was attended by Former MLA Sushree Dipali Das, Jharsuguda Municipality Chairperson Smt. Rani Hati, Vice-Chairperson Raju Panigrahi, BJD District President Sri Harish Ganatra, Youth Leader Pursottam Mohanty, Social Worker and Senior Advocate Tapash Kumar Ray Chowdhury, Advocate Pilla Ram Mohan Rao, along with Siyaram Das, B. Nageswari, Alok Tripathy, Arun Chaini, R.K. Sukla ,Raja Baid, Navneet Kaur, and others.
During the Dharna, the protesters also drew the attention of the authorities to alleged deficiencies in the functioning of the hospital, including the non-availability of basic facilities such as X-ray services, a generator and proper hygienic conditions, besides raising other concerns relating to patient care and hospital management. They urged the health administration to examine these issues and take appropriate corrective measures.
Speaking during the agitation, Sushree Dipali Das said, “This is a failure of the BJP government and reflects the failure to fulfil the commitments made by Jharsuguda MLA Sri Tankadhar Tripathy.”
Following the agitation, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), intervened and assured the protesters that appropriate action would be taken. Subsequently, Dr. Anees Aktar was issued a show-cause notice seeking his explanation over the alleged negligence of duty.
Youth leader Pursottam Mohanty, Municipality Vice-Chairperson Raju Panigrahi and Senior Advocate Tapash Kumar Ray Chowdhury also expressed concern over the doctor’s alleged behaviour and the overall functioning of the hospital, calling for improved patient care, proper facilities and accountability from the health administration.
The matter is now under administrative scrutiny, and further action will depend on the doctor’s explanation and the findings of the competent authority.
